Backup Engineer (Contract) – Remote
IMPEX is requiring the services of a Backup Engineer for its large healthcare customer in the Los Angeles area. This person will be responsible for the operation and support of the backup infrastructure. This Consultant will be encouraged to take the initiative to help evaluate the client’s backup environment to ensure they are providing an efficient and secure backup solution.
The Backup Engineer will primarily assist with the backup environment, developing new and improved environments as needed. They will provide technical leadership for small and medium-sized projects. They will learn technical concepts quickly and apply them effectively in the workplace.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provision/Configure required backups
- Create and maintain backup infrastructure with the appropriate SAN, network, or local storage configurations, using both OEM and third-party
- Monitor and correct critical backup issues and create recovery processes for failures and performance bottlenecks and configure alerts for proactive response times
- Supports backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity team
- Analyze business requirements and define practical business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) recommendations and tradeoff options
- Triage, prioritize, and assign backlog of tasks to a team of engineers based on technical difficulty, value to the business, and operational risk
- Create technical documentation, standard operating procedures, and plans
- Responsible for deployment, testing, certification, patching, addressing interoperability issues, not only of the base data backup system, but for all features, components, and application dependencies
- Evaluate, improve, and maintain the information security throughout the backup infrastructure
- Write and maintain custom scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks, such as monitoring backup storage
- Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability to include verification of the replication of data, fail over copies, redundant data sets
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience configuring, installing, managing, and monitoring backup systems
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience working with backup products such as Avamar and Data Domain
- Experience with Cyber Recovery Vault, preferred
- Experience leading Backup security including participation in security-based audits, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance, preferred
- Experience working in a healthcare environment, preferred
