Senior Systems Engineer (Contract) – San Diego, CA

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer for one of our large customers in San Diego, CA. The Senior Systems Engineer will help build out, maintain, and troubleshoot their rapidly expanding infrastructures. This position will report to the Information Technology Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, administer, patch/update, monitor, and support Windows, Linux and O365 servers, employ analytical skills to assess and correct server related problems or outages. Monitor and resolve disruptions, outages, security violations, and attacks on server related devices and services. (20%)
  • Define, create and maintain system policies, comprehensive server diagrams and documentation for support personnel and contribute to policy development, procedures and technical reports associated with operating and maintaining the system state and the server infrastructure. (20%)
  • Perform independent high-level design of enterprise application systems, establish the system’s basic structure, defines essential core design features and elements that provide the framework, influence technical designs at the enterprise level and actively participate in setting technical direction of the styles of computing, design, test, and deploy new systems, applications, and networks, including installing operating systems, and productivity applications. (15%)
  • Define, create and maintain system policies, comprehensive server diagrams and documentation for support personnel, administer procedures and corporate messaging application, contribute to policy development, procedures and technical reports associated with operating and maintaining the system state and the server infrastructure. (15%)
  • Assess and maintain network and system security, analyze and correct system issues and error logs. (10%)
  • Lead and facilitate the analysis, design, programming, and implementation of viable solutions to highly complex business problems and to support evolving technological needs of the organization and develop and implement project plans to support strategic system and network related initiatives. (10%)
  • Make recommendations for future system upgrades and develop a hardware upgrade protocol. (5%)
  • Implement and maintain server backup/recovery processes. (5%)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent specialized training required.
  • Current Microsoft 365, VMware (or other virtual hyper-converged technology certifications), preferred.
  • Azure Solution certifications (AZ-303 or higher), preferred.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in a Systems Engineer or System Architect role required.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in a Systems Engineer or System Architect role required.
  • At least 7 years’ experience with VMware vSphere virtual infrastructure environments. Hyper-converged systems experience such as: VMware VxRail, Nutanix is plus.
  • At least 7 years’ experience with Microsoft Exchange Server or Office 365.
  • Strong working knowledge of designing, installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows/Linux environments and Cloud based environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of deployment, management of Microsoft Directory Services – Windows Active Directory, AD replication, Group Policies, Windows Server, 2012, 2016, 2019 Server, DNS, DHCP, and ADFS.
  • Engineering and advanced management of Microsoft Office 365 and other cloud-based technologies (Azure/AWS) and SSO support knowledge required.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
