Systems Engineer (Contract) – San Diego, CA

We are looking for a Systems Engineer for one of our large customers in San Diego, CA. The Systems Engineer will help build out, maintain, and troubleshoot our rapidly expanding infrastructures. This position will report to the Information Technology Manager.

Essential Functions

  • Manage, administer, patch/update, monitor, and support Windows, Linux and O365 servers and employ analytical skills to assess and correct server related problems or outages. (20%)
  • Monitor and resolve disruptions, outages, security violations, and attacks on server related devices and services and assess and maintain network and system security, analyze and correct system issues and error logs. (20%)
  • Design, test, and deploy new systems, applications, and networks, including installing operating systems, database, and productivity applications. Make recommendations for future system upgrades and develop a hardware upgrade protocol. (15%)
  • Assess and diagnose system performance by applying experience-based discretion to direct corrective action to increase efficiency and optimization. (15%)
  • Define, create and maintain system policies, comprehensive server diagrams and documentation for support personnel and contribute to policy development, procedures and technical reports associated with operating and maintaining the system state and the server infrastructure. (10%)
  • Implement and maintain server backup/recovery processes. (10%)
  • Develop and implement project plans to support strategic system and network related initiatives. (10%)


  • Drivers License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent specialized training required.
  • Current Microsoft, VMware (or other virtual hyper-converged technology certifications), and Azure Solution certifications (AZ-303 or higher), preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience with hyper-converged systems, such as: VMware VxRail, Nutanix, Microsoft Hyper-V, etc.  Nutanix is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of experience in backup and storage technologies, such as: Dell EMC Systems, PowerStore, Data Domain, Avamar, Veeam, VMware vSAN, NetApp, etc.
  • At least 3 years of experience in administration of Microsoft Windows Server Environment and Active Directory / Azure.
  • Current MCSE, and one or more of the Azure certifications – AZ104 to Azure-303.
  • Knowledge of installing, configuring and troubleshooting Windows/Linux environments and Cloud based environments.
  • Email engineering and administration, Microsoft Exchange Online and outlook 2016, 2013 knowledge.
  • Administrator and Engineering Microsoft Office 365 and other cloud-based technologies (Azure/AWS) working knowledge.
  • Manage, support and Virtualization and clustering in environments such as VMWare, VxRail, Nutanix, Microsoft Hyper-V, etc.
  • Able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
